Given that we’re spending billions of stimulus dollars to rebuild our highways, it makes sense to think about what we’ll be driving on them. For years to come, most of what we drive will be powered, at least in part, by diesel fuel or gasoline. To fuel that driving, we need access to oil. The less use we make of our own reserves, the more we will have to import, which leads to a number of harmful consequences. That means we need to drill here and drill now.
We rely on petroleum for much more than just powering our vehicles: It is essential in everything from jet fuel to petrochemicals, plastics to fertilizers, pesticides to pharmaceuticals. According to the Energy Information Administration, our total domestic petroleum consumption last year was 19.5 million barrels per day (bpd). Motor gasoline and diesel fuel accounted for less than 13 million bpd of that. Meanwhile, we produced only 4.95 million bpd of domestic crude. In other words, even if we ran all our vehicles on something else (which won’t happen anytime soon), we would still have to depend on imported oil. And we’ll continue that dependence until we develop our own oil resources to their fullest extent.
Those who oppose domestic drilling are motivated primarily by environmental considerations, but many of the countries we’re forced to import from have few if any environmental-protection laws, and those that do exist often go unenforced. In effect, American environmentalists are preventing responsible development here at home while supporting irresponsible development overseas.
My home state of Alaska shows how it’s possible to be both pro-environment and pro-resource-development. Alaskans would never support anything that endangered our pristine air, clean water, and abundant wildlife (which, among other things, provides many of us with our livelihood). The state’s government has made safeguarding resources a priority; when I was governor, for instance, we created a petroleum-systems-integrity office to monitor our oil and gas infrastructure for any potential environmental risks.
Alaska also shows how oil drilling is thoroughly compatible with energy conservation and renewable-energy development. Over 20 percent of Alaska’s electricity currently comes from renewable sources, and as governor I put forward a long-term plan to increase that figure to 50 percent by 2025. Alaska’s comprehensive plan identifies renewable options across the state that can help rural villages transition away from expensive diesel-generated electricity — allowing each community to choose the solution that best fits its needs. That’s important in any energy plan: Tempting as they may be to central planners, top-down, one-size-fits-all solutions are recipes for failure.
For the same reason, the federal government shouldn’t push a single, universal approach to alternative-powered vehicles. Electric cars might work in Los Angeles, but they don’t work in Alaska, where you can drive hundreds of miles without seeing many people, let alone many electrical sockets. And while electric and hybrid cars have their advantages, producing the electricity to power them still requires an energy source. For the sake of the environment, that energy should be generated from the cleanest source available.
Natural gas is one promising clean alternative. It contains fewer pollutants than other fossil fuels, it’s easier to collect and process, and it is found throughout our country. In Alaska, we’re developing the largest private-sector energy project in history — a 3,000-mile, $40 billion pipeline to transport hundreds of trillions of cubic feet of natural gas to markets across the United States. Onshore and offshore natural gas from Alaska and the Lower 48 can satisfy a large part of our energy needs for decades, bringing us closer to energy independence. Whether we use it to power natural-gas cars or to run natural-gas power plants that charge electric cars — or ideally for both — natural gas can act as a clean “bridge fuel” to a future when more renewable sources are available.
In addition to drilling, we need to build new refineries. America currently has roughly 150 refineries, down from over 300 in the 1970s. Due mainly to environmental regulations, we haven’t built a major new refinery since 1976, though our oil consumption has increased significantly since then. That’s no way to secure our energy supply. The post-Katrina jump in gas prices proved that we can’t leave ourselves at the mercy of a hurricane that knocks a few refineries out of commission.
Building an energy-independent America will mean a real economic stimulus. It will mean American jobs that can never be shipped overseas. Think about how much of our trade deficit is fueled by the oil we import — sometimes as much as half of the total. Through this massive transfer of wealth, we lose hundreds of billions of dollars a year that could be invested in our economy. Instead it goes to foreign countries, including some repressive regimes that use it to fund activities that threaten our security.
Reliance on foreign sources of energy weakens America. When a riot breaks out in an OPEC nation, or a developing country talks about nationalizing its oil industry, or a petro-dictator threatens to cut off exports, the probability is great that the price of oil will shoot up. Even in friendly nations, business and financial decisions made for local reasons can destabilize America’s energy market, since the price we pay for foreign oil is subject to rising and falling exchange rates. Decreasing our dependence on foreign sources of energy will reduce the impact of world events on our economy.
In the end, energy independence is not just about the environment or the economy. It’s about freedom and confidence. It’s about building a more secure and peaceful America, an America in which our energy needs will not be subject to the whims of nature, currency speculators, or madmen in possession of vast oil reserves.
Alternative sources of energy are part of the answer, but only part. There’s no getting around the fact that we still need to “drill, baby, drill!” And if those in D.C. say otherwise, we need to tell them: “Yes, we can!”

President Obama could learn a thing or two from Governor Palin.
The president is in my state, the state of New York. In fact, today he will be a mere 35 miles from where I live as he speaks at Hudson Valley Community College.
Yesterday he made media round after media round, causing some to wonder if these plethora of appearances are too much of a “good” thing.
The New York Daily news reported:

Obama’s decision to hit five network shows today – ABC’s “This Week With George Stephanopoulos,” CNN’s “State of the Nation,” CBS’ “Face the Nation,” NBC’s “Meet the Press” and Univision’s “Al Punto with Jorge Ramos” – is known in media circles as “the Full Ginsburg.”
It is so named after William Ginsburg, who in 1998 became the first person to hit five shows in one Sunday as the attorney for White House intern Monica Lewinsky. Hillary Clinton later did it when she launched her presidential bid in 2007.
Obama is the first President to even try, which just underscores his comfort level with the medium, experts said.
Comfort level? Hmmm…Well, apparently he’s not too comfortable with one particular media outlet, and that would be Fox News. It appears he’s still pouting that they are not cheering, fainting, and getting tingly leg sensations at the mere sound of his voice. Therefore, he won’t give them the time of day. For a president many tout as a brilliant politician, why has he thumbed his nose at the cable news show that leads all others? An L.A. Times article called “Top of the Ticket” stated:
Latest ratings out for the second quarter of 2009 show the top-rated FNC having one of the best quarters in its entire history with prime-time ratings jumping an astounding 34%, not all of them Obama fans. That 8-11 p.m. slot is crucial for viewers — and ad dollars — which includes Fox’s showcase “The O’Reilly Factor.”
Throughout the viewing day, Fox News did even better with its 1.2 million viewers, on average, more than doubling CNN’s 598,000 and more than tripling third-place trailer MSNBC’s average audience of 392,000.
With the resistence of the American people to accept President Obama’s Health Care Bill, one would think it a “brilliant” political move for him to have swallowed his intense dislike for the cable news channel he’s always dissing and to have capitalized on the advantages of granting them an interview. Instead, didn’t he dodge an opportunity to reach across the aisle, show he is not the ultra-partisan president he has been accused of being, and stand up to the hardball questions he would get from Fox that he would likely not get from other media outlets? GOP lawmakers said yes.
A handful of Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Joe Wilson (S.C.), say that President Barack Obama is ignoring a large segment of the public by refusing to appear on Fox News.
Obama is scheduled this weekend to appear on every major Sunday talk show except for “Fox News Sunday.”
Fox News, which is considered more conservative-leaning than ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN, confirmed Obama will not be interviewed on its network on Sunday.
Wilson, who was reprimanded this week by the House for his outburst at Obama last week, said that by excluding Fox, the president was not being fair.
“If people are going to be on the Sunday talk shows, they should be on all of them,” Wilson said.

Freshman Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) said that the White House’s media strategy is an example of the president not living up to his promise to change the tone in Washington.
“The only thing this shows is that the president is ignoring a very large segment of this country. He said he was going to reach across party lines and be a different kind of president, but so far he hasn’t followed through with real action,” Scalise said.
Some House Democrats saw nothing wrong with Obama’s decision to forgo Fox.
Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) said that it has become clear “which networks are really fair” while predicting that the president will eventually appear on “Fox News Sunday” in the future.
So President Obama chose to appear on “really fair” networks while ignoring the likes of Fox News? Well, how interesting is that. I say the president has a lot to learn.
Rewind to the 2008 campaign. People can say what they want about the McCain camp throwing Governor Palin to the wolves when they allowed the likes of Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson to have at her. Both Couric and Gibson had an agenda. Katie couldn’t get past the abortion question and Charlie played a gotcha game with the Bush Doctrine question. Prior to both interviews, the McCain camp clearly knew that the interviewers were in the tank for Obama. We can go round and round about that decision, but there’s one thing that stands out about the McCain camp as I consider that the President of the United States refused to appear on Fox News even as he seeks to win over the American people on health care: At least they didn’t hide. I don’t know why they refused to sit her down with Bill O’Reilly but instead sat her with Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson. But I do know she went on.
I also know that when she returned to Alaska after the election, she invited Matt Lauer into her home and let him interview her. She didn’t hide.
I know, too, that upon her resignation announcement in July, Governor Palin didn’t shy away from Andrea Mitchell but while fishing granted her an interview. Again, no hiding.
The bottom line is that Governor Palin, demonstrating true leadership, has neither run away nor been shielded from those who have not exactly been in her corner. President Obama, on the other hand, has almost every media outlet in his back pocket, and he wouldn’t even rise to the challenge of the one “fair and balanced” one that was sure to ask him the toughest questions–questions to which Americans want honest answers. He’s not even campaigning anymore(or is he?); he’s already got the job. And he’s not lying about health care, right? So what’s the problem?
Maybe he’ll answer that question while he visits with David Letterman tonight. Surely that’ll be a tough interview.

Parents, if you can’t keep your child/children home on 9/08 sit down and read the Constitution with them and explain to them that the Constitution is where their freedom comes from. The Constitution was not meant to be a progressive document able to be changed by whomever is elected president. Explain that our and their freedoms do not come from the current President and Congress. Do not let them be brainwashed by Obama. Do not let them be a part of his civillian youth corp., civillian volunteer corp. We experienced that with Hitler and his Hitlerjugend. Do not let our republic experience an Obamajugend. Contact your school district and demand that they do not participate in this propaganda but instead teach the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Confucius say: “It is often following crowd who push leader forward.”
…and so the Sarah Palin for President campaign begins, but there are some issues which must be addressed right off.
Why does there appear to be so much animosity toward Sarah Palin?
Well, there’s no denying that Sarah fought and defeated the powerful, corrupt, and deeply entrenched “old boy” establishment, bringing decency and benevolence into the state government. Who does she think she is?
…then Sarah Palin twisted the arms of the struggling oil companies, forcing them to pay thousands of dollars to each Alaskan family — how dare she rock the boat.
She ran a clean administration, and despite every sinister and desperate attempt, via contrived ethics charges by pathetic political wannabes, to create a false appearance of impropriety, Sarah’s record remains clean. (All the more reason to be suspicious of her…)
She also gave birth to a down-syndrome baby. Realizing what an extra burden such a child would be, she could have so easily disposed of the problem, what with her political career and the rest of the family’s needs to consider, it certainly would have been understandable, but this does highlight one of Sarah’s major flaws — she has a true heart, not very PC.
Sarah lacks experience. This is true. She has no idea how to work those sleazy back-room deals for suitcases full of dirty money.
She will not be skilled at slipping those secret daggers in the backs of those who count on her to save the country. Not good at lying, she cannot be bribed, not selfish enough; even so naïve as to believe in goodness … and … God — oh no — no no, absolutely a big problem.
It must also be admitted, and there is no way round it, that her detractors on TV have indeed made some incontrovertible points. No matter what your thoughts on this campaign, you cannot deny the absolute facts they have established about Sarah Palin, and these are:
No matter how you dress up a lewd, vulgar, tasteless pig; even with a stunning red suit, a sharp hairdo, and attractive glasses — even if you put perfect lipstick on her — it will not be Sarah Palin — it will still just be Tina Fay, selling herself. There is no getting around this particular point of truth.
The honest, courageous, intelligent, noble, and able Sarah Palin remains unchangingly our Sarah, God’s offering to America, perhaps our last chance for a true incorruptible leader, with angel fire in her eyes, and Divine lightning in her fists.
…and the pathetic dressed up pig remains, exactly and only what it is, lewd, vulgar, bought and sold, and as far removed from Sarah Palin, as the West is from the East.
So how do we begin this campaign — “Sarah Palin for President”?
The first thing to realize is that all of our problems originate from some form of corruption — we will not have that problem with Sarah.
There are plenty of righteous geniuses to hire for advice. All that is needed is someone who reveres and cherishes the real America, based on the Constitution, with the ultimate purpose of freedom, prosperity, and security, making the best choices after honestly considering such advice.
Next, being sure of what we want, we simply begin this “Sarah for President” campaign.
We know that money is necessary, so, as a show of faith and solid intention, take ten or twenty dollars — today — and stash it away for the “Money Bomb” moment which is on its way. On that Money Bomb day — faithfully pull that bill out and send it in! By placing that money aside now — we have begun our campaign.
Next, begin to spread the word. The Sarah Palin Campaign for President has begun. Set aside your donations, spread the word, form local groups ready to work for her in the near future, defend her good name at every turn, shun the likes of David Litterman, his sponsors, and the network which collaborate with the verbal rape of young women (Sarah’s daughters).
Start making signs, get your bumper sticker, start raising potential donors, start working as if the election were in three months, and don’t let up.
There is talk that Sarah will run on a third party — what shall it be called — why of course — THE TEA PARTY.
Work, talk, donate time money and materials. Realize what is actually at stake and fight. Fight as if freedom itself depended on it.
Most of all, become a prayer warrior, and beg God for the future of America.
Re-ignite your angry voice of moral outrage, and stop talking about “Taking Back Your Country.”
Talk about “Keeping Your Country,” it is already yours. Saying you “want it back” is a subtle admission of surrender — that you have lost, that your country has been taken. We do not want to “Take America Back,” we, and Sarah, intend to keep our Country — it is already ours, and it will remain ours.
Every desk, every computer, every building, vehicle, government plane, desk, chair, the pens they write with and the paper they write on, all are the property of the people of these United States. The government owns nothing. It produces nothing, and has no claim whatsoever to anything. It rules only with our permission, and derives all that it uses from the labors and donations of the American people. All else is illegal, all else it treason against the people who fund and build everything in and of this nation.
Sarah Palin knows this, that is why she is our President-to-be, and that is why we the people who still have eyes to see and ears to hear, do now, with a great passion for freedom, and with unbounded faith, gratitude and reverence for the original Constitution of the United States of America — we the people do hereby declare the beginning of the unstoppable, victorious, and blessed by God…

It could be a friend, a boss, a family member, your TV, but most often it is those we elect into political office: the very people who are supposed to work for us and protect our interests. And all the burglar alarms in the world will not stop them since they do not detect them.
I know one is not supposed to carry a civil discourse in this manner but we have come to a time in history were we must now speak or our tongues may be silenced for a long time. As I write this, we have politicians all over the country stealing from us. Many of you are now more than aware of this new Cap and Trade bill brought to us by ‘our’ representative in the 30th district of California Mr. Henry Waxman.
Well, you may also want to know that Mr.Waxman has been quite busy these days not only by promoting the biggest tax in the history of the USA but also by helping to give away land he does not own. Whose land? The land of our revered Veterans, that’s whose land.
This land is slowly being doled out to special interest groups that benefit Mr. Waxman and his friends also known as the “Westside Political Machine” Sadly, he is not the only one doing this; politicians all over the country are ‘giving’ land they do not own to special interest groups. Eighty-five acres of Veterans lands were just annexed in Chicago. Where did it go to, who got it?
So, let’s start with a little history on Veteran land here in Los Angeles in Henry Waxman’s district, to get the big picture of what is happening all over this country.
Veteran land is land that has been deeded to the Veterans to take care of their physical and emotional wounds. One of these lands the West Los Angeles Veterans’ Home (WL VHA) the largest parcel on land for Veterans in the USA, was donated by Arcadia de Baker and John P. Jones in 1888 to the Government for the sole purpose of providing permanent care to our Veterans. Arcadia de Baker kindly donated 388 acres in West Los Angeles, to Veterans and our Veterans ONLY.
At that time, the hospitals on the land were providing care to the returning Civil War Veterans and to emphasize the intensity of suffering they were called asylums. What Arcadia de Baker realized was that the peaceful and isolated land was perfect for healing the physical and emotional wounds of people who served their country.
What Arcadia de Baker did not know, though, that in time this isolated land would end up in the middle of one of the most affluent areas in this Country. The WLA VA is the largest Veterans Healthcare Center in the Untied States. It also just happens to be located in an area that is considered the Fifth Ave of California, a place with multi-million dollar mansions and fancy condos. So, being prime real estate many are vying for it.
Now, I ask you, who is more deserving to own this land than our Veterans? Men and women we as Americans honor with all our hearts. But as we honor them, many politicians and appointed bureaucrats at the Veterans Administration (VA) are using their power to hurt them. In Henry Waxman’s district in Brentwood, homeless Veterans sleep outside the gates of their own land while TV productions rent empty hospitals that neither the VA, nor Waxman will open for our Veterans claiming that the buildings are damaged.
Yet, these damaged building that are rented to TV show “Grey’s Anatomy” among others net seven-million pre year. Now would they rent damaged buildings for seven million a year and let celebrities work in? No way. The celebrities insurance would never allow this to begin with. So why are they not fixing them for our Veterans, certainly 7 million would be enough, yet not only are these building continued to be rented to Hollywood, but there is NO account to where that money is going.
Rees Lloyd, a Vietnam-era Veteran and a member of the American Legion, compares the way VA treats the Veterans to the way The Bureau of Indian Affairs treated Indians. “Every agreement and promise can be dismissed at convenience”, says Rees. Mr. Lloyd, a lawyer by profession, who represented Cesar Chavez and Farmers Workers Movement for many years, has joined ‘We the Veterans’ in their attempt to save the land. Recently, in accordance, with the Flag Code of the Untied States, the Veterans decided to turn the flag upside down as a sign of distress.
In return the federal police almost arrested them for ‘disturbing’ conduct! Terrorist like Bill Ayers can stomp the flag, anarchists can burn flags on the steps of the Congress, paint on flags, rip flags, put flags in dung and call it art but our Veterans who fought for what the flag represents, cannot, in accordance with the law, hang the flag upside down as a call of distress. Something is very wrong with this picture in America.
Right now in history we have a group of renegade politicians who have buried our Constitution under the structure of false laws that we must abide by. ‘Laws’ that allow them to steal in the dead on night without being caught in the morning. And make no mistake about it; if they can steal our Veterans land without blinking an eye, they will soon be able to steal your land.
These ‘thieves’ work on people’s minds having them believe they are spotless humans whom do no wrong. Their abuse is silent and ‘lawful’. It is always for “our good”. Hook up with an abuser with a slick intellect and you are done in. Hook up with a slick abusive politician and your country is done in. Our founders fought a long battle to give us freedom, we are not going to let them just steal it from us. And the first place to start is to stand with our Veterans and help stop this land grab.
Call your representatives, write your senators, show outrage, demonstrate with your fellow Veterans but do not allow this to go on any more. Their land is your land in many ways, for without these good people freedom would be just a word.
This is disgraceful. Where is the MSM. I think we all know. Not reporting and standing idly by while our freedoms are taken away one by one, slowly but surely. On July 24, Democratic Sens. Barbara Boxer of California and John Kerry of Massachusetts took to The Washington Post to attack former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s opposition to the Waxman-Markey cap-and-tax legislation and her overall energy philosophy.
Mrs. Palin correctly criticized the scheme presented in the legislation sponsored by Democratic Reps. Henry A. Waxman of California and Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts. By only citing a report from the left-of-liberal Center for American Progress, Mr. Kerry and Mrs. Boxer naively underestimate the effects the legislation will have on the American economy. Other, more mainstream organizations, such as the Brookings Institution and the Black Chamber of Commerce, disagree.
Waxman-Markey artificially creates competition between cheap, abundant energy and unreliable, expensive renewable forms, compelling utilities to use heavily subsidized, politically correct “renewable energy” while thousands who work producing traditional energy lose their jobs.
All the while, American industry will flee to other countries where they can power their assembly lines with cheaper energy. Because nearly four decades of obscene subsidies for wind and solar power haven’t worked, Waxman-Markey ups the ante and engages in societal re-engineering and fundamental restructuring of America’s energy supply.

I am not a McCain supporter but the U. S. threw away the opportunity to elect a competent VP with common sense in favor of a smooth talking inept community organizer and a clown. Congress likewise has mostly become a joke powered by the duo of Pelosi/Reid. Let’s change this fiasco in 2012.
